> The guiding intellect was repeating these words in its ear, and impressing upon it: ‘The best of what a man eats is from his own labor.’ In the midst of these conditions, a hog, having fled in rout from the wound of a hunter's arrow
> and escaped the peril and terror of destruction, suddenly landed on this island;
> and when it saw the island full of blessings, it set its heart upon making that place its home and dwelling.
> It entered the fig-grove and inspected the trees one by one; when the boughs of a tree
> \[appeared high...\]
> empty of fruits, he was astonished: "Who has eaten so many figs? And who
> has brought these bounties and fruits into their possession and control?" In the midst of this contemplation
> and perplexity, he looked at a fig tree and saw ripe figs, and a monkey had climbed upon it;
> he was eating some and gathering some. When the boar saw that ease and luxury,
> the abundance and pleasantness of life, and witnessed the monkey obtaining his sufficient livelihood and complete restraint,
> envy and anger overcame him, and malice and wrath appeared within
> his heart, and sparks from the fire of hatred began to cast flames in his heart:
