> And it should be known that this book was in the Pahlavi language, and until the time of
> the most illustrious, learned, and just amir, Nāṣir al-Dīn Abū Muḥammad Nūḥ ibn Manṣūr al-Sāmānī—may God illuminate
> his proof—no one had translated it. The just amir Nūḥ ibn Manṣūr commanded
> the eminent master Abū l-Fawāris Fanārūzī to translate it into the Persian language, and to remove
> the disparities and defects that had found their way into it, and to set it right and true. In the year
> three hundred and thirty-nine, the eminent master Abū l-Fawāris took on the trouble and applied his mind to the work,
> and composed this book in Dari phrasing; however, the style was extremely base
> and stripped and devoid of ornament and embellishment, despite the fact that in it there was room for discourse and scope for
> there was ample scope for refinement and artifice, yet no tire-woman had adorned this bride, nor in
> the arena of eloquence had galloped the steed of expression; no robe had she fashioned, nor ornament prepared, for these words of wisdom, virgin maidens and cloistered beauties;
> and it was near to being utterly effaced from the pages of the days,
> and wiped out all at once from the margins of time. But now, through the fortune of the triumphant dynasty,
> it has received new life and regained freshness and splendor anew:
