Painting of Matsya

Gouache painting from an album of 26 depicting scenes of Hindu mythology in a variety of painting styles. The fish avatar Matsya, the first incarnation of Viṣṇu, rises from the river. He is flanked on either side by sadhus (holy men), partly submerged in water.
