Hip-wrapper

Cotton hip-wrapper decorated in the chintz, or resist-dyed, technique, using madder (red) and indigo (blue), sometimes in combination. The central field is decorated with a floral pattern based on French 'bizarre' designs, while at the edges and the ends are decorative elements drawn from local tradition.
