# Fall-front cabinet

The design of this piece is typical of fall-front cabinets made in the 16th and early 17th centuries in western India. Such cabinets were based on European prototypes and were used for storing and transporting documents and valuables. They were in effect the equivalent of the modern-day briefcase.
