One of fourteen paintings of castes and occupations. This one of a watchman, or a door-keeper, and his wife; the man, in white, holding a gold staff of office; the woman in a dark blue skirt and red 'choli'. In upper India, the gold-staff-bearer (chobdar) is a door-keeper who announces visitors.
