This is the left side of a double composition, the right side of which is Museum no. IS.2:78-1896. It is an illustration to the Akbarnama (Book of Akbar) and depicts the Mughal emperor Akbar (r.1556–1605) receiving news of the birth of his first son, Prince Salim.
