The off eye is foreshortened in three-quarter face presentations, but the near eye is drawn as if seen in front view, and the same is true of profiles. Lines to indicate the eye socket are drawn above and below the lines of the eye itself. The four lines just mentioned are drawn in red, the eyebrow black. The pupil is a black spot. In large paintings the white of the eye on either side of the pupil is barred by vertical red lines, curved concentrically with the limit of the pupil.
