The Temple of Kallēśvara or Kalameśvara
c32.s1.1
THIS temple is very much of the same style as that of Kallēśvara at Kukkanūr, but less ornate and altogether an inferior building. It is also a later structure. Bālambīd is a village about six miles east of Hāngal. It seems to be quite complete, and does not appear to have suffered much, if at all, at the hands of man. This may, in great measure, be due to the total absence of images upon the exterior, though it was evidently intended to have had some about the roof and tower, but the blocks were left uncarved. The Dravidian storeyed arrangement of the tower is plainly seen (Plate CXXVII).
