The Music and Musical Instruments of Southern India and the Deccan c10.7

- **Language:** English

### [c10.7](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.art.day-1891.c10.7)

The use of the Sârangi in Southern India—except in conjunction with Nautches—is rapidly being discontinued, and an English fiddle tuned as a vina or sârangi is often substituted for it. Farther North the instrument appears likely to hold its place for a long time to come. A clarinet is sometimes preferred to the Mukavina.
