The Persian writer, Mirza Khan, under the patronage of Aazim Shah, wrote a work entitled “Tohfuht-ul-Hind,” which contains a chapter upon music, the information for which was extracted, with the assistance of Pandits, from various Sanskrit works. Mirza Khan describes four principal systems of music—viz., those of Isvara; of Bhârata; of Hanumân, or Pavân; and of Callanath. All four are mentioned also in the Râga Vívodha.
