The whole city of Bijāpur is enclosed by a fort, 10.5 km. in its perimeter, with six main gates. Besides, about six and a half kilometres to the west of Bijapur, there is a township in ruins known as Nauraspur (Fig.69), built by Ibrahim II ‘Ādil Shāh (1580–1626 A.D.) (Percy Brown, 1942, p.73). This town is also within a fort, which is incomplete. It has no entrance on the west, south and north. It measures six kilometres around, with a moat on the north fed by the Rāmlinga tank nearby.
