On comparing this quotation with Varâha’s statement, we see at once that he has suppressed Garga’s mention of the beginning of the Kâli-Yuga to suit his own astronomical fancies. Now Garga states most explicitly that the Seven Rishis were in Maghâ at the beginning of the Kâli-Yuga, and says nothing whatever about Yudhishthira. But the fact that the Rishis were in Maghâ at the time of the Great War was too well known to be altered, and so Varâha accepts this, while he quietly ignores Garga’s statement about the Kâli-Yuga. Well might Nrisinha reject “the teaching of Varâha as differing from the Purânas.”
