An era starting from the date of the coronation of Śivājī the great founder of the Marāṭhā empire, viz., the 6th June 1674 A.D. (Jyaiṣṭha-sudi 13 of the year Ānanda=Śaka 1596 expired), was prevalent in the dominions of the Marāṭhās for some years. It was called the Rājyābhiṣeka Śaka or Rāja-śaka.
