The \*Kāśikā\* has preserved lists of words belonging to each \*gaṇa\*. The evidence of the \*Chāndra-vṛitti\* also, shows that the \*Kāśikā\* was following a previous tradition. Kātyāyana and Patañjali were also at pains to conserve the purity of the \*Gaṇa-pāṭha\*.
