A record of the time of Parāntaka I mentions Kaḷanjus weighed by a stone called after Vedelvidugu, which was the surname of the Pallava king Tellarareinda Nandipottaraiyar.⁴⁷ Since the actual weight of the Kaḷanju seed varied by a few grains, it would seem that the standard was specifically determined by the state from time to time.
