(1) While editing the Kadaba plates¹, Hultzsch had suggested that Akālavarṣa Śubhatuṅga, mentioned in Merkara plates² as having flourished in the 5th century A.D., might be a Rāṣṭrakūṭa prince, possibly the father of Indra who, according to the Kauthem plates, was defeated by the early Cālukya prince Jayasiṃha. Akālavarṣa Śubhatuṅga no doubt looks like a Rāṣṭrakūṭa name, but we have to omit this king altogether from our consideration, as the Merkara plates have been shown to be a forgery.
