At Akbar’s death the shrunken kingdom of Ahmadnagar remained nominally in the hands of Murtazā II, the representative of the Nizām Shāhs, and actually controlled by Malik ‘Ambar the capable African minister. The two greater kingdoms of Bījāpur and Golconda and the small state of Bīdar remained intact, but Bīdar was annexed by Bījāpur in 1620.
