### [v4.c19.162](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.general.burn-1937.v4.c19.162)

The city was not regularly besieged, but combats between the two armies, in which victory according to the historian of Bījāpur rested with Muhammad Shāh's troops, were of frequent occurrence. The real policy of Muhammad was, however, not to defeat but to starve the enemy. Negotiations were prolonged, while supplies were intercepted and the Mughul army was reduced to such distress that it was compelled to retire. It moved first to the fertile districts of Mīrāj and Rāybāg on the Krishnā, where it obtained supplies by plundering the country and thence retired, by way of Sholāpur, to the territory held by the imperial troops in the former kingdom of Ahmadnagar.
