(2) An inscription on a pillar at Pattadakal, in the Bijâpur District,³ which records that the pillar was set up, by a Brâhman from Northern India, in the space between the three great Śaiva temples of Vijayêśvara, Lôkêśvara, and Trailôkyêśvara, which had been built by Vijayâditya, and by Lôkamahâdêvî and Trailôkyamahâdêvî, the wives of Vikramâditya II. Certain grants were given; and one of them was made on the occasion of a total eclipse of the sun on the new-moon day of the month Śrâvana: the corresponding English date is the 25th June, A. D. 754, when there was a total eclipse of the sun, visible right across India.
