of the Pāṇḍya Mahāmaṇḍalēśvara Vijaya-Pāṇḍyadēva,¹ dated at the winter solstice, falling on the 25th December, A. D. 1165, of the Pārthiva saṃvatsara (Ś. S. 1088 current), quotes the saṃvatsara as the fifteenth year of Taila III. And the Aihole inscription of the Sinda princes Bijjaladēva and Vikramadēva,² dated in the Virōdhin saṃvatsara (Ś. S. 1092 current), = A. D. 1169-70, quotes the saṃvatsara as the ninety-fourth year of the Châlukya-Vikrama-varsha. All this looks as if the Pāṇḍya and Sinda chieftains, — and the latter in spite of an intermarriage with the Kalachuryas, — did not acquiesce in Bijjala's usurpation, but entertained hopes, from the first, of a restoration of the Châlukya sovereignty.³
