¹ \[Bhāmburda (Bambooree) is a quarter of a mile north of Poona, with which it is linked by the Lakdi bridge and a causeway. In 1801 Vithujī Holkar was captured in a house in Bhāmburda, and under Bājī Rāo's orders was dragged to death by an elephant in the streets of Poona. The village contains a rock-cut Saiva temple and caves, which are the oldest remains in Poona. (B.G., xviii, pt. iii. 361.)\]
