The reserve division of the Bengal army stationed at Rewah, under Brigadier-General Hardyman, was ordered down to Nagpoor, when the Marquis of Hastings was first apprised of the defection of Appa Sahib; but the order was not received until the 6th December, so that General Hardyman did not reach the neighbourhood until the whole was settled by General Doveton; but on the 19th December, he routed a body of the enemy assembled at Jubbulpoor, reduced that place and co-operated with Lieutenant-Colonel M’Morine in occupying the whole of Appa Sahib’s northern territory, excepting Choureeagurh and Mundelah.
