When he reached Delhi Muhammad was in the Kanauj district, but the minister, Khvāja Jahān, saw that he and his fellow travellers were well received at the capital. The king’s generosity to these strangers, who had no claims on him, was fantastic. Ibn Batūtah himself received 6000 \*tangas\* in cash, a grant of three villages within thirty miles of Delhi which gave him an annual income of 5000 \*tangas\*, and ten Hindu slaves.
