¹ Edited by Bhattasali in \*EI\*, Vol. XVII, pp. 349 ff. The image is now in the Dacca Sāhitya Pariṣad. Note the similarity of the Pāla and Candra seals. The rulers of both the dynasties bore the title \*Paramasaugata\* and had no scruples in granting land to the Brahmans in the name of \*Buddha-bhaṭṭāraka\*.
