- **Language:** English

### Note on Transliteration and Diacritical Marks

### [c3.1](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.general.sastri-1929.c3.1)

LONG vowels are indicated thus : ā. Generally, c represents च; but forms well established in usage like Chola Chidambaram, etc., have been retained. The following may also be noted : ḍ stands for ड; ḷ for ள் ; ḻ for ழ் ; ṇ for ண் ; ñ for ஞ் ; ṟ for ற் ; ś for श; ṣ for ष and ṭ for ट. The form Pāndya is used, though, strictly speaking, it must be written Pāṇḍya. The Tamil passages quoted in the text have been, with a few insignificant exceptions, transliterated in the Additional Notes at the end.
