The Cōḷas c19.167

158. Hultzsch has clearly misunderstood the phrase—'\*igaliḍaippūṇḍa jayattiruvoḍum\*' which he translates into: 'with the goddess of victory, who had shown hostility in the interval,' and in which he sees 'an admission of the fact that the Cōḻas had experienced reverses.' \*SII.\* iii. p. 70 and n. 4. The '\*iḍai\*' after '\*igal\*' is clearly a locative suffix to the preceding word meaning 'battle,' not 'hostility', in the context.
