In lexicography the large \*nigaṇḍu\* (lexicon) called \*Pingalam\* after its author belongs to this period. Its topical divisions are different from those of \*Divākaram\*, the earliest extant lexicon composed by Divākara under the patronage of a Śendan of Ambar sometime in the eighth century A.D. Little is known of the author of \*Pingalam\*; he is mentioned in the \*Nannūl\* and seems to have been a Śaiva.
