(\*Mudrā Rākshasa\*, Act vii; Wilson, ii, p. 249). The statement in Turnour's and Wijesinha's versions of the \*Mahāvaṁśa\* that Chandragupta reigned for thirty-four years is due to a copyist's blunder (Rhys Davids, \*Ancient Coins and Measures of Ceylon\*, p. 41, note). Geiger's version (chap. v) correctly gives twenty-four years. Buddhist and Brahmanical authorities being agreed in the matter, the fact may be accepted as established.
