⁴ Beal, \*Records\*, vol. i, pp. xci, \*c\*. The name Lae-lih, given by Beal, is, as already noted, fictitious (\*ante\*, p. 328 note). In the time of Song-Yun Ki-pin usually signified Kashmīr, though at times it seems to have meant, or included, Gandhāra also. In the seventh century Ki-pin ordinarily, though not invariably, meant Kapiśa, or North-eastern Afghanistan (Chavannes, \*Song Yun\*, pp. 37, 39).
