The Periplus (48) and Ptolemy (VII, 1, 62) both call the city of Ujjain ’Οζήνη. This has nothing to do with the -ηνῃ names; it is merely someone’s transliteration into Greek letters of the sound of the Indian name Ujjahini. It suggests however that other similar transliterations may exist.
