¹ ASI 1912–13 p. 7; JRAS 1914 p. 986. Konow in CII p. xxxii said that Marshall took this date ‘from archaeological reasons’, which might have been important; but a reference to the passages I have cited shows that this was apparently a mistake, and anyhow Marshall has abandoned the dating. An Era of Maues was also advocated by Ramprasad Chanda, JRAS 1920 p. 319.
