v2.c17.s2.t8.1

The Śālaṅkāyanas ruled in Āndhra-*deśa* during the fourth and the fifth centuries. A copper coin of Chandravarman has recently come to light. It has a Bull on the obverse and the legend *Śrī-Chandrava(rman)*, giving the king's name, on the reverse.⁵ Its size is 0.7 in. and weight 94 grains.

v2.c17.s2.t8.3

The Bull was the *lāñchhana* of the Śālaṅkāyanas and the palaeography of the coin legend belongs to the fifth century. The coin therefore may have been an issue of the Śālaṅkāyanas. The issuer Chandravarman was probably a grandson of Hastivarman, the opponent of Samudragupta.
