When her lover was away, the courtesan refused to wear ornaments except the \*mangala\* ornaments and conch-shell bracelets. She visited astrologers, observed good planetary omens to ascertain the day of his return, and interpreted good dreams as portents of an immediate union with her lover. If the dream was inauspicious she performed rites to propitiate the deities and to pray for his safe return. After his safe return, she worshipped Kama and other gods and carried home the vessels of plenty (\*purnapatra\*) in the company of her confidantes. The feeding of the crows was carried out after this.
