It is mentioned that Surattha (Kathiawar) was a non-Aryan country, but from the time of king Samprati it was declared suitable for the preachings of the Jain monks. It is said that Kalakācārya had brought here ninety six kings from Persia, and consequently this country was divided into six mandalas. Surattha was a centre of trade and commerce and a number of merchants used to visit this country. Bāravai (Dvāravatī) is described as a beautiful and prosperous city. To the north-west to the city was situated the mountain Revaya (Girnar), which is described as dear to the Dasara kings where Aritthanemi is said to have attained salvation. It is said that Aritthanemi ordained a number of persons here including Paumavatī the queen of Kanha and the sons of Kanha and Baladeva. It is mentioned that, as predicted by Aritthanemi, Bāravai was destroyed due to excessive drinking and by fire. Bāravai was a sea-port and being a centre of trade, was visited by various merchants and tradesmen.
