¹²³³ The two portions of \*lāja\* ( fried grain ) poured into the bride's hands together with the first pouring of \*ājya\* ( called उपस्तरण ) and the subsequent pouring of \*ājya\* ( called प्रत्यभिघारण ) constitute the four \*avattas\* or portions cut off from the material for \*havis\*. The descendants of Jamadagni are पञ्चावत्तिनः ( \*vide\* above p. 490 ); therefore three portions of \*lāja\* are to be poured out ( in order to make with उपस्तरण and प्रत्यभिघारण, five \*avattas\* ). For these terms ( चतुरवत्त and पञ्चावत्त ) \*vide\* शतपथ I. 7. 2. 7-8.
