### [v3.c48.205](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.polity.kane-1930.v3.c48.205)

²⁴⁰⁷ आहवनीयतः परिश्रिते देवपत्नीभ्यःपरिश्रिते वा। आप. III. 9. 3 and the com. says 'यथाहवनीयो न दृश्यते तथा परिश्रिते प्रच्छादिते गार्हपत्य इत्यर्थः.' In modern times a wooden frame is placed to the east of the gārhapatya as a screen. The reason why the gārhapatya is screened from view is stated in the Śat. Br. I. 9. 2. 12 to be "for, up to the time of the Saṁiṣṭayajus the deities continue waiting, thinking 'this he must offer to us'; he thereby conceals this offering from them; and accordingly Yājñavalkya says 'whenever females (human) eat here they do so apart from men'."
