(meaning Āpastamba-Mantra-Brāhmaṇa) was chosen by me for this Mantra-Pāṭha in order to match SMB. (meaning Sāma-Mantra-Brāhmaṇa). The use of the name Brāhmaṇa for a considerable variety of subsidiary texts which are by no means strictly Brāhmaṇas (see the note on page xvii b) is a peculiarity of the Sāma-Veda tradition; but this Mantra-Pāṭha is never to my knowledge spoken of as a Brāhmaṇa in the tradition of the Āpastambins.
