The ten Prachetasas were sons of Prāchina-barhis and great-grandsons of Prithu, and, according to the Vishnu Purāna, they passed ten thousand years in the great ocean, deep in meditation upon Vishnu, and obtained from him the boon of becoming the progenitors of mankind. They took to wife Mārishā, daughter of Kandu, and Daksha was their son. See Daksha.
