Unlike the glaciation and pluviations in the inland area the coastal areas witnessed sea-level changes during the Quaternary \[9.10\]. Such changes may be either worldwide or local; if they are worldwide they are called eustatic. The changes caused by transgression and regression of sea on land are found preserved in the coastal areas in the form of high-level sea-beaches, beach-rocks, coastal fossil dunes and the geomorphic forms like marine plantation surfaces, ria-type valleys of the streams, wave-cut caves, platforms, etc. Occasionally prehistoric cultures are found in association with these deposits; thus they provide important evidence for dating the cultures radiometrically or stratigraphically.
