Apart from references in literature and actual examples recovered in excavations, there is a large variety of beads, pendants and amulets depicted in sculpture, especially of the Śuṅga-Sātavāhana, Gupta and medieval periods. Though datable they have not yet been exhaustively studied. Similarly there is a vast material from excavations and explorations which remains yet unpublished. Moreover there are several private collections in different parts of India and reserve collections in museums which are awaiting a proper study.
