### [v1.c15.s1.4](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.reference.ghosh-1989.v1.c15.s1.4)

Around the beginning of the 1st millennium B.C. the second urbanization \[4.18\] is supposed to have taken place because of the introduction of iron. This revolution is reflected in the rich material assemblage including beads associated with the horizons of this process of urbanization. HASTINĀPURA, KAUŚĀMBĪ, PAITHAN, PĀTALIPUTRA, RAJGHAT, TAXILA and VAIŚĀLĪ belonging to this period have yielded a rich and varied collection of beads of different periods. Some of these, for instance those from Taxila, KAUŚĀMBĪ, UJJAIN, etc., seem to have developed as centres of bead-manufacture in the early centuries prior to and after the beginning of the Christian era.
