In the excavation at KAYATHA this ware has been found in the lowest levels and constitutes one of the three principal ceramics which characterize the culture at this site, the other two being a red-painted buff ware and a combed ware \[which gives it a pre-Harappa, 4.8, 4.14.5, appearance\]. The levels are datable on the basis of ¹⁴C determinations to \*c.\* 2000-1800 B.C
