(xi) Andhra. In the Krishna-Godavari delta and its adjacent uplands there are Neolithic settlements \[4.6.8\] like UTNUR and NAGARJUNAKONDA. The evidence of Chalcolithic occupation \[4.14.7\] is clear at SINGANAPALLI. The early historical archaeology is dominated by Buddhist settlements and \*stūpas\* like AMARAVATI, Goli, Jagayyapeta and SALIHUNDAM. NAGARJUNAKONDA happens to be the most important excavated city site but mention should also be made of YELLESWARAM, DHARANIKOTA near Amaravati and KONDAPUR, all of these have been briefly excavated.
