Some of the ring-wells have well-heads in the form of either a parapet wall or a stone slab placed over the mouth of the well or domical covers of terracotta. At HASTINĀPURA, BHITA and BANGARH the upper courses of the ring-well are made of wedge-shaped brick which probably formed part of the well-head (Pande, 1966, p. 214). At SISUPALGARH and BHITA a square stone is placed on the mouth of the ring-well having an aperture of the same diameter as that of the ring-well. Rope-marks are also noticed on the inner edge of the stone cover of the ring-well at SISUPALGARH. The solitary example of a detachable domical lid of terracotta placed over the mouth of a ring-well is from TRIPURĪ.
