Perhaps the earliest tiles are known at JADERUA and TRIPURĪ, datable to the 5th-4th century B.C. At CAMPĀ and RĀJGHĀṬ they occur in levels of the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C.; especially at the latter site they have been extensively found. KAUŚĀMBĪ and SONKH have yielded them in the 2nd and 1st century B.C. levels.
