### [v1.c25.s4.33](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.reference.ghosh-1989.v1.c25.s4.33)

Earlier palaeographists used dynastic names, Maurya, Kushan, Gupta, Chalukya, etc., to label palaeographical developments of later periods. It is however better to give them regional identities. Writing being an item of culture, regional traits and culture vitally governed the development of Brāhmī script into present regional scripts.
