In Bihar Maithilī is still in use in the Mithila region. Kaithī, with many local varieties, in use all over n. India from Gujarat to Bihar, is rapidly falling into disuse. It is a true cursive writing and differs from the Devanāgarī characters in the omission of the horizontal and perpendicular strokes where possible.
