v1.c3.1

The Indian Council of Historical Research wishes to express its particular gratitude to Mrs. Sudha Ghosh, who traced a number of photographs and drawings for the work after her late husband had prepared the copy for publication. She also took great interest in the subsequent progress of the work.

v1.c3.2

In his work as Editor, Mr A. Ghosh was assisted by Dr Himanshu P. Ray, now at the Centre of Historical studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

v1.c3.3

Gratitude of the Council is also due to Mr B.K. Thapar, former Director-General, Archaeological Survey of India, who kindly agreed to write the Introduction for this *Encyclopadeia*. This was the only part of his work as Editor which A. Ghosh had not been able to do before his untimely death.

v1.c3.4

The Late Mr H. Sarkar, former Joint Director-General, Archaeological Survey of India, suggested the need for an index to Volume I, and Mr B.M. Pande, Director, Institute of Archaeology, New Delhi, had provided the detailed guidelines for the Index. The actual work was carried out by Mr S.P. Das, Senior Documentation Officer, ICHR.
