### [v1.c9.s14.27](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.reference.ghosh-1989.v1.c9.s14.27)

The ceramic industry is represented by kiln-burnt plain and painted black-and-red, black, steel-grey and red wares. The pottery, of sandy clay and porous section, is both wheel-turned and handmade and has a thick slip over it. The early specimens of SONPUR are brittle and too small to indicate any shape, but the types at CHIRAND include: the dish-on-stand; long-necked jar; lipped bowl; basin; bowl with ring-base; spouted vessel; four-legged and ring-based perforated pot; lipped jug; trough; dish; bowl; and elongated lipped bowl in black-and-red and red wares; and high-necked \*lota\* with corrugated shoulder in black-slipped and black-and-red wares. Generally bowls and dishes show painted designs in groups of wavy or straight lines or dashes executed in white on a black surface and the necks and shoulders of the vases are painted in creamy white. A few sherds of the black ware show white paintings. The SONPUR specimens have a red-slipped shoulder with creamy dots, a red-ware sherd with black linear painting and two black rims with dark creamy lines and parallel dots. The white-painted black-and-red channel-spouted bowl from ORIUP also deserves mention. The stems of the dishes-on-stand from CHIRAND are plain and corrugated, while a few SONPUR black-and-red samples show incisions and groovings below their rims.
